From Dan Slott’s Facebook:

If you don’t want AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #700 spoiled… get off the internet NOW. Spoilers abound!

On the CBR Forums, they’ve threatened to ban anyone who discusses or spoils #700 before 12/26:

New rule about posting Leaked Spoilers early. BREAKING THIS RULE WILL GET YOU BANNED!

After doing some digging we have discovered the spoilers that everyone is interesting in seeing. Yes we are going to take a different stance than some of the other big comic book resources and show you them early. Ultimately at this point it’s your choice weather or not to proceed further into the post….BE FOREWARNED SPOILERS WILL BE TO FOLLOW…

Comix-Inc Spoiler Alert

I won’t say too much about ASM #700 in terms of specifics, except to point out the obvious — that nothing about this premise makes an ounce of sense for either of the characters involved. Specifically, Doctor Octopus has never wanted to be a hero. And he’s never shown any indication of it over the course of nearly 700 issues of megalomania and villainy until Dan Slott pulled it out of his ass (although in a later tidbit, from the same guy who released the spoiler, apparently Otto is shocked that Peter forgives him at the end for the body swap/killing him).

Here are the opinions of several readers of X-Men Supreme Blog where we found the images from ASM#700. I for one couldn’t agree more with them…

Never would I have believed just two short years ago that Marvel would effectively get rid of Peter Parker from all of their mainline titles, replacing him with (a) a tiresome 13 year-old, Miles Morales, who just happened to get his spider powers the same exact way as Peter, and also gets handed every bloody thing that Peter himself built (the mantle, costume, web shooters) while having the personality of dry toast, and (b) Doctor Octopus in Peter’s body, after effectively stealing his life, namesake, accomplishments, and in a final indignity, his ex-wife.

For those dismissing that Peter Parker won’t be back in 12 months or a few years — that doesn’t really match up with what Steve Wacker is saying at Marvel:

“For years to come the shadow of Peter Parker is going to be draped over the book. There’s nothing you can do about that. But new cast members will come in. Life goes on. Peter Parker fans will sort of fade away over the months and years, and you’ll have a bunch of people who only know the new cast.”

He also says that #700 is supposed to be the end of Peter Parker as a character. So this is a long term commitment. I also get the feeling that a few years back (if not longer), Marvel editorial made the ridiculous decision to break the “Peter Parker is Spider-Man” connection for good while turning him into a legacy character like Green Lantern (in their minds, Peter Parker is the issue and prevents Spidey from being “timeless”). And this, along with killing off Peter in Ultimate, seems to be a part of the overall plan. Axel Alonso, Editor in Chief, recently bemoaned that replacement heroes are never as popular as the originals. So what is Marvel’s answer? Get rid of the original everywhere so that he ceases to exist.
